Discovered by Spanish sailors in the 15th century, Barbados is a Caribbean Island that is located about 400 miles north east of Trinidad and Tobago. It is an island country located in the Lesser Antilles. It measures 34 kilometers long and 23 kilometers wide on a 431 square kilometers land mass. Since it is situated on the outside of the Atlantic Hurricane Belt, it is a very safe place to holiday.

Although a wonder in itself, Barbados boasts three major natural wonders as espoused below.

Harrison's Cave‎

This is a crystallized limestone cavern that awes all the visitors that sees it. It is located in the heartland of Barbados and is characterized with flowing streams, towering columns and pools of crystal clear water. The cavern is adorned with beautiful speleothemic stones and white flow stones.

Baobab Trees

A story is told that about 1000 years ago, a baobab seed floated across the oceans and was deposited in the heart the Barbados at a place called Queenspark in Bridgetown. Over the years, the seed germinated and grew to the largest tree in the Caribbean which has a circumference that equals to 18 adults holding hands in a circle. Another of the Baobab tree is located along Warren Road and this one is said to be 250 years old.

Grape Fruit Tree

In the Barbados folklore, a story is told of a grape tree that was first developed in Welchman Hall and the development recorded in the 18th century. The parents of the tree were Shaddock and Sweet Orange from Asia. They cross pollinated to form the forbidden fruit which today grows citrus fruits in grape like structure. It is one of the most popular fruits grown in Barbados and is world renowned as one of the seven wonders of Barbados.

Apart from viewing the wonders, a tourist in Barbados will be treated to some of the best seafood in the world as well as enjoy the Caribbean sun on the sandy beaches. The island nation is not prone to natural disasters as her neighbors and will be the perfect destination to take the family for a summer vacation.
