Culture and Active Travel in the Yucatan Peninsula – Day 1

While Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are best known as winter sun destinations, there is an array of exciting cultural and adventure activities enticing travellers to venture past the sandy beaches. Our Marketing Director Judy Karwacki and her partner Martin visited the Yucatan for their Christmas vacation in 2014. They savored the opportunity to learn about and taste the local culture, zipline in the jungle, raft and float in the underground caverns, swim with dolphins, manatees and sea lions, and more. Over the next five days you’ll learn why we treasure the Yucatan for a getaway and about five ways to enjoy the most popular culture and adventure experiences in the region.

On Day 1 we offer up Xoximilco, which offers the chance for visitors to the Yucatan to experience the traditions of central Mexico on board a picturesque trajineras, boats traditionally used for transporting flowers, fruits and vegetables grown in floating gardens. The trajineras are decorated with cultural motifs from each state, and the traveller is taken under the night sky, through canals and through time in a Mexican fiesta-style complete with live music, local food, traditional dancing and flowers.
